Kansas City gets a brand new, bright blue fitness court

A new, innovative — and bright blue — outdoor fitness court is not only turning heads, it’s helping to turn over a new leaf for better health.

UnitedHealthcare partnered with Unified Government of Wyandotte County and others to bring the fitness court to St. Margaret’s Park in Kansas City, Kansas, hoping to encourage area residents to increase their physical fitness.

According to the 2019 America’s Health Rankings Report, Kansas is ranked 38th in the country for adult obesity. UnitedHealthcare of Kansas CEO Rob Broomfield believes the new fitness court is one way to help reverse the trend.

“We are so grateful for the opportunity to be a part of the installation of this fitness court,” he said. “Now thousands of residents in the area have easy access to this new, outdoor gym. Not only will this help lead to an improvement in the overall health of individuals, but also the community as a whole.”

Visitors to the fitness court will find exercise rings, boxes, steps, pull-up bars and more. Signs at each station help direct the user to different exercises, based on their fitness goals. The fitness center even has its own free mobile app that offers classes, workout routines and other fun ways to get fit.

The new fitness court is free to use and is designed for teens, adults and senior citizens at any fitness level.
