TATYANA: I was a girl who was known for coming from a Russian orphanage at the age of four and a half, I had a failed adoption, and I entered foster care at the age of 13.

JON: If you don't have a place to live and you don't know where your next meal's coming from, and you have to worry about physical abuse or other kinds of abuse in your life, then you can't move on to the next level things like education and thinking about your future.

TATYANA: I attended eight different schools during that time span and I also was a high school dropout.

TATYANA: What was the turning point? What changed? The simple answer is Lighthouse Youth & Family Services.

JON: Lighthouse is great because it's both a landing place and a launching pad for these young people to have hope.

HEATHER: Over the years, we've gotten-- we've got to know great partners like Lighthouse and we're spending more time on things like transportation and housing and social supports and behavioral health.

JON: And no matter where you start, you can do anything, but some people have a steeper mountain to climb than others and the more that we can knock down the barriers that stand in the way from them, the more hope can come into their lives.

TATYANA: I was a student at Lighthouse Community School, and now, on top of being on a board of trustees with Lighthouse Youth Services, I now am a staff member, not a student, at Lighthouse Community School.

TATYANA: So everything has come around full circle.
