Serving Our Neighbors

Building hope for homeless veterans.

As the facility’s largest private investor, UnitedHealthcare took great pride in the opening of Veterans East, a 100-unit apartment community adjacent to Fort Snelling in Minneapolis. The complex helps connect residents with health services, education and job training. At the ribbon-cutting ceremony, dozens of UnitedHealthcare and Optum employees — many who served in the military — handed out “welcome home baskets” to the veterans moving into their new homes. The baskets included basic essentials such as household items and personal hygiene products to help make their move easier.

“This is a new start that has taken a heavy burden off my shoulders, helping bring stability and hope into my life.” -Nathaniel Green, U.S. Navy veteran

A smooth success.

Peanut butter is an important source of protein, and one of the most requested items by Second Harvest Heartland. Since 2012, UnitedHealthcare employees have organized events that have delivered more than 6 tons of peanut butter and $1,500 in matching funds to Second Harvest Heartland.
