Reducing expenses for over-the-counter products with Medicare Advantage

Ellen is generally healthy and doesn’t have a lot of health care costs. That said, she tries to stay on top of her health with a few over-the-counter (OTC) products, like pain relievers and vitamins — and costs, over time, may add up when coming out of her own pocket.

So she was pleasantly surprised to find her UnitedHealthcare Medicare Advantage plan offered a quarterly credit that can be used to purchase a broad selection of OTC products online, by phone or via mail-order, with fast home delivery.

“If you’re just thinking, ‘Well, it’s just pain medicine’ or ‘it’s just vitamins,’ it’s not,” Ellen said. “The variety is one of the biggest things — you can find a lot of things that you use all the time that you wouldn’t think would be part of an over-the-counter credit.”

Medicare Annual Enrollment runs through Dec. 7 and offers an opportunity to review your current plan and health needs so you can make an informed decision about your coverage for the coming year.
