If you’re just getting started with shopping for a plan on the Health Insurance Marketplace, it may feel overwhelming. But it’s important to know, health insurance plans are not just for emergencies. Individual and Family plans, available on the marketplace as part of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), cover ten categories of essential health benefits including annual wellness and preventive services, chronic disease management, prescription drug coverage, and more.
Beyond these essential health benefits, you may also have access to additional features that help keep you healthy all year-round. Here are three benefits included in Individual and Family plans by UnitedHealthcare that may surprise you:
1. Gift cards for doctor visits. When you visit your primary care provider with a UnitedHealthcare plan, you may be eligible to receive a $25 gift card from a national retailer like Amazon or Walmart.
2. Digital fitness membership at no additional cost. You may be eligible for a one-year digital fitness membership, featuring an array of virtual fitness classes, including yoga, strength training, meditation and more.
3. Discounted Walgreens-brand health and wellness products. For any Walgreens preferred network plans, Walgreens will offer a 20% discount for approved Walgreens-branded over-the-counter (OTC) products. This might include health and wellness items you use every day, like first aid supplies, pain relievers, allergy sprays and more.
Open enrollment for 2022 health coverage runs nationwide from November 1, 2021 to Jan. 15, 2022, for most states. Enrollments completed between Dec. 16 and Jan. 15 will have coverage effective Feb. 1, 2022.
