With over 5,000 employees in Massachusetts providing coverage to more than 500,000 individuals and families throughout the commonwealth, UnitedHealthcare’s imprint reaches far and wide.
Through their dedication to helping people live healthier lives and making the health system work better for everyone, the Massachusetts team is impacting the communities in which they live and serve.
“We’re not providing health care in a vacuum,” said John Madondo, UnitedHealthcare Community Plan of Massachusetts CEO. “We know that most of the things that affect people’s health are not just the actual illnesses that they have, but the things that we call social determinants of health, things like their housing, their access to food, the transportation to get to and from a doctor’s office.”
In 2021, Massachusetts employees volunteered over 60,000 hours of their own time and, through a corporate matching program, donated over $800,000 to local charities and organizations to help promote better health and wellness.
By identifying gaps within the structures impacting social determinants of health and partnering with local organizations to provide support and resources, the team is providing its neighbors the opportunity to live their healthiest lives.
“This is our home,” said Jumelie Miller, VP of Medical and Clinical Operations of Massachusetts. “We want to not only look out for our communities, but we want to look out for the people within the communities.”
