Nearly 100 kids gathered in the gym at the Wallingford Boys & Girls Club in Seattle, excited to kick off their Summer Running Club. The children were in for an additional surprise when each one was given a pedometer, courtesy of UnitedHealthcare.
The pedometers were provided as part of UnitedHealthcare’s Step Up for Better Health Sweepstakes, a national initiative to encourage walking and support Boys & Girls Clubs. UnitedHealthcare visited the club and held a special event to celebrate the sweepstakes, as part of April’s Move More Month.
During the event, the kids participated in a walking challenge and were encouraged to track their steps. UnitedHealthcare also gifted the club with a new treadmill and a $1,000 donation. The Seattle event was one of 11 similar initiatives around the country.
“We want kids to learn the importance of exercise from an early age, so they can carry good habits throughout their life,” said Jim Schirmer, director of account management for UnitedHealthcare in Washington.
